The 20th century could be defined by the many wars that took place during it. Although the average world citizen may only see World War 1 and World War 2 as being the only two major wars that changed the course of world history, the world would not be what it is today if not for the many other respectively smaller wars that took place. The October War of 1973 is one of those wars in which in the grand scheme of things it is overlooked, but it no doubt changed the course of world history. There is a great deal of controversy associated with this war, with both sides claiming to have been victorious. The October War of 1973 was fought between Israel, and their Arab neighbors: Egypt and Syria. There were tensions left over from the Six Day†¦show more content†¦Syria’s next move is an attempt to abolish the Israeli advanced command center in northern Golan, Syria fails and Israel successfully pushes back the Syrian forces to behind the 1967 ceasefire line and recaptures m ost of the land lost in the beginning of the war9.[1] The area this battle was fought in is known in history as â€Å"The Valley of Tears† due to the excessive bloodshed and it’s widely considered to be one of the greatest tank battles in world history; www.militaryeducation.com ranks it as 7th all-time10.[5] Israel is now advancing beyond the ceasefire line and is en route towards the capitol, Damascus. Despite aggressive Syrian resistance, Israel have now captured territories deep in Syria but are unable to take down the crucial Damascus. On October 13th, 1973 Egypt has one of their most famous victories in which they annihilated the infamous Bar-Lev Line of defense, a defense which was seen as impenetrable at the time11.[1] Israel is publicly humiliated and through the British ambassador to Egypt they try to negotiate a ceasefire, Anwar el-Sadat denies the ceasefire on the grounds that he wants back all of the Sinai Peninsula.
